Emergency Room Consultations
All burn patients admitted to Our Lady of Lourdes Emergency Department will be seen by a Burn Center nurse and a burn surgeon will be notified to determine the best path of treatment. This procedure ensures that every patient with a burn injury receives proper care to ensure the best outcomes.
Burn Unit
The Burn Unit provides state-of-the-art burn care for patients that require hospitalization. This facility is self-contained and has its own procedure area for burn surgery, its own recovery area, and hydrotherapy room that supports enhanced infection prevention by keeping our patients in the unit. The Burn Unit provides care from admit to discharge.
Therapy
The Burn Center has a wide range of therapists that specialize in burn care and provide expertise to patients to promote the best functional outcomes. These team members include dedicated physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, respiratory therapists, and dietitians all working together to provide comprehensive care.
Psychological Care
Sometimes a serious burn can leave both physical and emotional scars. A critical part of the recovery process is psychological care. We refer a local Psychologist to meet with our patients and their families to assist in dealing with the emotional aspects of the burn injury. Patients are given methods to deal with pain, anxiety, nightmares, body-image and depression that may accompany an injury.
Outpatient Burn Clinic
Patients with burns that do not require hospitalization or patients that need follow up after their hospitalization are given an appointment to be seen in our Outpatient Burn Clinic. Our highly experienced burn surgeons, physician assistant and nurses see patients Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 12 p.m. Patients will be assessed during all stages of the healing process to ensure the best cosmetic and functional outcomes.
